CALIFORNIA BECOMES FIRST STATE TO PROHIBIT HAIR DISCRIMINATION IN WORKPLACES AND SCHOOLS
California is the first state to ban discrimination against natural hair in workplaces and schools. The CROWN Act, which was signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom, updates anti-discrimination laws so that the term "race" includes "traits historically associated with race."

UC EMPLOYEE UNION FILES UNFAIR LABOR CHARGES AGAINST UNIVERSITY
The UC system’s largest employee union filed three separate Unfair Labor Practice charges in late April alleging that the UC is taking part in negotiations to replace its employees with low-wage workers contracted by outsourcing companies.

In the middle of quite possibly the busiest boulevard in the San Fernando Valley, there is a rustic building that resembles an old wooden shack. Surrounded by freeways on all sides, the roads are filled with loud traffic every morning, but once inside, the hominess of a nostalgic western American cabin sets in.

Perhaps you missed his office because it was obscured behind a brick wall with a sign reading Platform 9 3/4. Maybe you weren’t looking for a train station leading to a magical institution, but the entrance to English instructor Mickey Harrison’s office bears an uncanny resemblance to the place.
CREATING THE ODD
The exterior is painted a dull red color. The outside walls, chipping, are holding large windows together. The building is more window than wall. If one were to walk by the storefront on a regular day, they might think an abandoned building was situated between a coffee shop and a film studio. But on certain days, this dusty storefront can transform into a jungle or a dance studio.
